We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Product Development Team as a key contributor in taking our proven technology to the commercial market.  This position will report to the Electronics and Controls Engineering Team Lead.

Position Requirements and Functions

  • Research, design, develop, and test circuits, electronic components, and systems for military and commercial use, utilizing knowledge of electronic theory and materials properties.
  • Generate technical documentation of designs, and issue technical reports on testing and validation of prototypes.
  • Use computer-aided engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments.
  • Provide technical support and instruction to staff regarding equipment standards and assist with specific, difficult in-service engineering.
  • Plan and develop applications and modifications for electronic properties used in components, products, and systems, to improve technical performance.
  • Analyze system requirements, capacity, cost, and customer needs to determine feasibility of project and develop system plan.
  • Confer with engineers, customers, vendors or others to discuss existing and potential engineering projects or products.
  • Determine material and equipment needs and order supplies.
  • Develop and manage external suppliers and partners in the design and manufacturing of electronic systems.
  • Apply principles and techniques of electrical engineering to accomplish goals.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.  Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years professional experience in electrical/electronic engineering, specifically in the design of custom control and power conversion circuitry.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.  This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of portable power systems.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • DC/DC conversion experience is a must.
  • Experience in the hands-on use of general lab equipment and hardware debuggers is required.
  • Experience in writing C/C++ code a plus
  • Experience in embedded Real Time Operating Systems.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Experience utilizing SMBUS Level-3 battery charging communications and charging strategies utilizing this information is a plus.
  • Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical and electrical structures and processes.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of portable power systems.
  • Experience in establishing and managing supplier relationships.
  • Experience with project management, engineering documentation, and report writing.
  • The ability to develop a Graphic User Interface is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of PADS PCB Design Solution software is a plus.

We are looking for a Controls Engineer to join our Product Development team as a key contributor in taking our proven technology to the commercial market.  This position will report to the Electronics & Controls Team Lead.

Position Requirements and Functions

  • Design, develop, and test microprocessor based embedded control systems for portable fuel cell systems.
  • Develop control algorithms enabling robust, reliable, and low cost systems.
  • Provide time and cost estimates for use in project planning according to established project plans.
  • Generate and maintain technical specifications and quality control requirements.
  • Develop clear requirements with systems customers and develop control solutions to ensure all requirements have been met.
  • Coordinate boundary requirements and change control over control subsystems and interactions with the hardware.
  • Troubleshoot controls and software issues and interface effectively with engineering team.
  • Utilize FMEA, Six Sigma, DFMA, and other tools as relevant.
  • Keep manufacturability and cost in mind throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Create test plans, protocols, and data analysis procedures to verify compliance to applicable regulations and quality guidelines.
  • Utilize a standard root cause and corrective action process to permanently resolve controls and systems issues.
  • Provide innovative new product ideas with a strong engineering foundation.
  • Create and manage supplier relationships.

Required Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

  • B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline is required.  Advanced degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of controls engineering experience in an electromechanical product development environment is required.
  • Proven, hands on technical design experience in hardware, software, or controls engineering and ability to communicate professionally with experts in all three areas of hardware, software, and controls.
  • 2-3 years of proven, hands on technical design experience in controls engineering.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in control schemes is required and with electrical circuit designs preferred, with the ability to review and evaluate methodology used in each area.
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink development tool chain is required.
  • Experience in estimating time and cost to accomplish engineering tasks in the area of controls development.
  • Experience in the development of “virtual” sensors.
  • Preferred experience with advanced battery charging and state of charge control algorithms.
  • Preferred experience in the hands-on use of general lab equipment and hardware debuggers.
  • Preferred experience in C/C++ and embedded Real Time Operating Systems.
  • Preferred experience with DC/DC converter control algorithms.

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our Product Development team as a key contributor in taking our proven technology to the commercial market.  This position will work within the Electronics and Controls Team.  The position will primarily be responsible for developing suitable software application used in portable electronic devices.

We are seeking a smart, experienced engineer who specializes in user interfaces and database development to join our team.  The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience designing modular, object-oriented JavaScript UIs. This is an exceptional opportunity to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, can-do environment.

Position Requirements and Functions

  • Design, develop, and populate a database for renewable energy applications.  Application will incorporate battery and alternative power (such as fuel cell, solar and wind).
  • Develop a renewable energy selection algorithm that incorporates power, remote sensing, climate control, and communication as critical performance factors.
  • Design and develop a PC and web based applications that interface with databases.
  • Develop Graphical User Interface (GUI) to provide practical, intuitive, and safe end user experience.
  • Work within existing hardware parameters to develop PC-based applications, build database applications, and develop prototypes quickly.
  • Implement data security encryption and peer to peer networking capability.
  • Build robust platforms, systems and networking infrastructure using distributed systems, OS/kernel, network system design, and storage systems.
  • UI development with AJAX and similar technologies, client application development for Windows/Mac (Chrome, Toolbar, etc.), embedded systems, and/or mobile apps.
  • Coordinate software development and implement functionality with deliverables from Adobe design software.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline (or equivalent).
  • Ability to collaborate with designers, engineers, and manufacturing to deliver simple software solutions and excellent user experience
  • Strong analytical skills with proven track record of data driven decision making.
  • Experience in supporting projects from initial concept to successful completion, including budget, time, and quality. 
  • Strong understanding of, and practical experience with, Java web application development.
  • Extensive programming experience in C/C++ and/or Java (strong OO skills preferred).
  • Experience posting web application to a database and presenting data in a stored database.
  • Coding skills in Python or Javascript/AJAX, database design and SQL, and/or knowledge of embedded programming is a plus.
  • Embedded programming experience, including communication protocols (e.g. CAN and I2C) is a plus
  • SMBUS battery management knowledge a plus
